07/15/05 Yesterday I interviewed
the mother and sister of the girl who was possessed as I wrote in a preceding e-mail.
I'm going to tell the story again, now that I got it straight from the mother's mouth.
I should point out that this is a well-to-do family, with both parents professors in the school
in Panajachel.
The family had just moved into
a new house a few days before a strange happening. The 14 year old daughter was
in the street and was approached by a tall strange looking man who beckoned her to come to him. Her sister, several years younger, grabbed her by the hand and forbid her to go. While this was happening, the 14-year-old girl began having difficulty breathing. The mother was summoned and they immediately took her to a doctor.
The doctor said there was no problem and she was taken home.
The following
day the girl had her 14th birthday. In the afternoon she again began having difficulty breathing. They tried to finf the doctor but it was Sunday and the doctor was not available. They went to the Baptist Church and pleaded for help, summoning five of the men including the pastor, and
our workers, Hector and Pedro. They rushed to the home and made the girl lie on her bed, as they constrained her. Hector
and Pedro both say the girl was much stronger than any girl, let alone a fourteen year old. At one point, as Pedro tried
to hold down her arm she freed her other arm and socked him in the face. She hit him so hard he fell backward, stunned.
When the men used their Bibles things got even worse, with the voice screaming when the Bible got close. The family was crying while the men prayed and held her.
The
entire look of the girl changed as she was on the bed and she became increasingly more difficult to calm down. The mother noted that the girl's voice was changing as well. It
was masculine and the girl was saying strange things. She was speaking the words
but it wasn't her voice and the content was different. The voice was making comments
about five family members who had died within the recent past, saying that three of them had accepted Christ, but "he" was
able to take two of them to hell.
This went on for better than three hours.
As the pastor and men prayed
and called on Jesus Christ to deliver the girl from the demons there was suddenly a change and the girl went limp. The
girl will later reveal that as that happened she saw what she described as a ball of fire leave her body and ascend through
the roof. Then there was no more problem.
The mother said that several
days later they had found a "prayer card" to Maximon, the god I referred to earlier, and that the
14 year old had apparently found it and said the prayers as the card described to help her with her schoolwork. While the girl was in the shower upstairs, the mother and father made a fire on the sidewalk outside and
burned the card. The girl upstairs came running out of the shower and said there
was smoke coming out of the drain. A check of the shower revealed that there
was in fact smoke coming out of the drain.
The mother (again a professor
at the local school) is now the secretary of the church and the whole family (now following Christ) attends.
There you have it. But there is one more interesting thing. When we arrived at
the house at four o'clock in
the afternoon we sat around the kitchen table when, not 10 minutes into the interview, the electricity went out and stayed
out for most of the two hours we were there. Kind of spooky, as you can see the
picture above of the mother. But then, this whole week was supernatural event week!
